Sacha Fawkes and Marianthe Loucataris were artists in residence at the Vancouver Arts Centre, Albany, Western Australia, from Nov 2014 to Jan 2015. They examine cross-disciplinary permeability across a diverse range of mediums including percussion, voice, dance, circus, projection and digital realms. They mix thousand year old oral traditions with contemporary new media; exploring collaborative multi modal movement/installations, the digital r/evolution of traditional mediums and developments in digital realities and cyber dissemination. Their work is informed by improvisation, rhythms of landscapes, the boundaries of human potential, and the resonances between people, places, and performance.
We invite you to explore the nature of creative conversations. What kind of conversations can we have in order to forge new patterns of engagement with creativity and culture. The world requires more people to feel comfortable with their ability to be creative, collaborate, effectively communicate and co-create courses of actions in order to come up with solutions to the social and environmental challenges we face.
What role can creative practice play in these pursuits? Creative practice and engagement can be seen as vital tools in the co creation of emergent culture and realities. Creative spaces allow us to nurture experiences, structures, ways of being and communicating within a liminal space. These improvised experiments may then be brought more easily from the liminal creative space to our 'real' world.
How then do online or augmented realities fit within this schema? Beyond time and geographic space... liminal and yet not temporary... co existing.. unchanging... timeless...captured moments in time ....which continue to exert their influence....
